Maintenance & Storage

HAVU skis are built tough with the carefully selected quality materials. Nevertheless, all skis from any brand need regular maintenance to stay in good condition.

Follow the guidelines below to maximize the life and performance of your skis.

Keep Skis Away from Unnecessary Moisture

Keeping the moisture out of your skis when not in use is the easiest way to improve their shelf-life and prevent the edges from rusting.
  • Get into the habit of brushing the snow off your skis.
  • Store your skis in a warm and dry place, where moisture can dry freely. For example in your house.

Wax skis regularly

Waxed skis maintain their gliding efficiency and are easier and more fun to ski on.

  • Use a decent quality hot ski wax or a paste wax. Any wax is better than no wax at all.
  • Note! When hot-waxing Ahma or Kettu skis avoid touching the skin area with the waxing iron, because the heat could damage skin material. We recommend you to use the paste wax on these ski models.

Avoid rocks

  • Minor rock damage to the ski base can be cleaned up and filled with P-Tex repair stick if needed.
  • Deeper gouges that reach the wood core should be fixed by ski shop to prevent water damage to the ski.

Nicks in the skis

This is a thing that mainly happens in Freestyle skiing due to it being tough for the skis.

  • Nothing needs to be done for small scratches that may occur on the topsheet edges of the skis.
  • Deeper gouges where a small piece of wood has chipped away can be sealed easily with liquid super glue. Simply add a few drops of glue and let dry.

Off-Season storing

  • We recommend to add a layer of wax on the base but not scrape it. This makes a protective layer on the base and edges.
  • Store skis in a cool, dry location away from the sun and clear of any clutter that could put unnecessary pressure on the skis.

Sidewall maintenance

HAVU skis are built with durable hardwood sidewalls and are treated with a special oil mix to keep the water away. If needed they can be re-treated with paraffin oil. Wood faded in use becomes then like new! Read more and view instruction video here.

  • Sidewalls on a pair of skis should be fine for many, at least 2-3 seasons between treatments, or more if they aren’t used much.
  • And don’t worry about this. It is not too important thing to worry about if you dry your skis well after use.
Ski care is important if you want your equipment to last, not to mention it allows for a more enjoyable experience. The more care you put into your equipment, the more fun you will have out on the slopes!
