Since the very first pair of skis our goal have been simple. We want to make change. We want to redefine the way skis are made to make the most ecological and best products on the planet. We want to get away from plastic and other harmful materials to protect our winters and save the earth.
What makes us unique is our use of superior bio-materials. For that reason our products cause almost zero-waste and have much lower carbon footprint. 60% less plastic, unique look, and durability are other positive effects. Traditional manufacturing is really toxic for the nature because harmful chemicals, logged forests, plastic waste and non-recyclable products all have an impact in global warming and pollution.
Through years of research, development and meticulous testing we’ve come up with a sustainable technology that uses the most eco-friendly materials in the world. We mixed this with a century old know-how of Finnish wood ski makers and as a result got the superior industry leading environmentally friendly construction that doesn’t harm the earth. We are still not perfect as there is always a small footprint when making a product, but we are continuously finding ways to make it smaller.
Why see this much effort? – Because this is the only planet we have and we can not afford to ruin it.
Flax Fiber
Every HAVU ski and snowboard is build with this wonderful material. It has 75% lower carbon footprint than carbon fiber. It’s been part of the agricultural history for centuries in Europe and is the most sustainable reinforcement material in the world. Impact absorption, damping properties and strength of flax mean you have the smoothest possible ride.
Full Wood core
Wood for our cores comes from local forests which are sustainably managed to ensure they stay as forests also in the future. Most of the wood is from our own forest and cut down by ourselves. Every time a tree is cut down a new one is planted. We then carefully handcraft it to become cores with the best possible properties.
Super durable Maple wood treated with linseed oil mixture forms really durable but entirely natural sidewall material. It massively reduces the amount of plastic, looks unique and increases natural edge feel.
Wood Topsheet
Wood veneers work perfectly as topsheets. They are 100% natural and each ski and board we make does have a unique look. We do not use exotic woods as they damage the ecosystem of rainforests such as Amazon. Instead, we use sustainable ones like birch and ash that can be harvested locally. Having a durable clear coat on top they stand against beating and unlike plastic wood can be sanded and re-coated to make it look like new.
Bio Resin
Traditional resins can be extremely toxic for the environment. We use Bio-Resin which is composed of bio-renewable materials from the industrial waste streams. It has total of 30% renewable materials resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced waste. It also provides more pop and super high adhesion to keep your skis or board from delaminating!
Local manufacturing
We build everything we sell with our own hands here in the middle of Finnish countryside in our own workshop. We say a big no to outsourcing the manufacturing of products to somewhere on the other side of the world as this causes way too much emissions at the expense of profit.
