Sustainably with ampliTex™️
At HAVU Snow, we’ve been exploring the potential of sustainable ski manufacturing for 9 years. Since the very first pair of skis, our goal has been to find high-performance alternatives to traditional ski materials and minimize our environmental footprint.
Innovative ampliTex™️ flax fibers play a major role in the construction of our downhill skis. As a renewable, plant-based material, flax fiber offers a lower carbon footprint compared to standard glass or carbon fibers. Flax plants absorb CO2 from the atmosphere during their growth cycle, locking it into plant’s structure. Utilizing these natural fibers together with local wood allows us to significantly reduce the footprint of our products.
Flax is an indigenous plant that grows naturally in Europe and has been part of the agricultural history for centuries. It’s an efficient crop that thrives primarily on rainwater and requires minimal nutrients to grow successfully. In addition, it acts as a beneficial rotational crop, helping to improve soil structure on existing farmlands. The cultivation and processing of flax rely on mechanical methods that minimize environmental impact. Every part of the flax plant can be utilized – from oil and animal feed to high-performance fibers. The long fibers derived from the plant possess excellent mechanical strength and outstanding dampening properties in relation to their density making them exceptionally well-suited as a natural fiber reinforcement in downhill skis.
Circular economy. AmpliTex™ fabrics optimize the materials’ life cycle and offer viable end-of-life options. While recycling solutions for traditional composites are still being developed, components reinforced with flax fibers can already be utilized for highly efficient thermal energy recovery, significantly reducing the amount of waste ending up in landfills.
Ski construction has remained the same for decades. We decided to change that.
